BIO

Aga Bal (Agnieszka Balcerzak) is a Polish-born artist currently living and working in Teià, Spain. Her creative path began in early childhood, surrounded by sewing machines, textiles, and pigments in her grandmother’s home — an environment that shaped her lasting fascination with tactility, materials, and composition.

She studied Fine Arts with a specialisation in Artistic Textiles at the School of Art in Koszalin, Poland, and later earned a degree in Fashion Design in Cambridge. There, she developed modular, three-dimensional textiles, graduating with distinction. This innovative approach led to a career in the international fashion industry, designing for global brands such as Adidas and Reebok, and managing production across continents. After founding her own resort-wear label, Sense Swim, and embracing motherhood, Aga gradually returned to her artistic roots. She explored materiality through ceramics in La Bisbal, Catalonia, and deepened her knowledge of the art world through the Art Business program at Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London.

The birth of her daughter Carla became a turning point, opening her to emotions she had never fully explored. She began to see art as a way to heal and connect, embracing painting and ceramics as deeply personal, meditative practices. During this period, she also worked on interior design and restoration projects in Alella.

Her pictorial language now sits between minimalist and material painting — rooted in sewn structures, layered alkyd washes, and subtle color fields. Her process combines sewing, painting, and emotional introspection, resulting in works that are quiet, dimensional, and deeply personal.

Aga Bal is currently preparing for her first solo exhibition.
